Trump was responding to a recent interview where Fallon expressed regrets about having Trump on his show, a move that caused considerable controversy for the late-night host.

This morning, Trump replied to Fallon's interview via his Twitter claiming the host had called him after the interview and said "monster ratings".

In a scathing tweet, the US President told Fallon to stop "whimpering" and "be a man".

The US president hit out at Fallon who recently said he "made a mistake" in his handling of Mr Trump on The Tonight Show during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Clearly, POTUS thinks he did just fine.

Shortly after Trump's tweet, Fallon declared on Twitter that he would be donating to RAICES, a Texas-based educational and legal service for refugees and immigrants. He was not trying to "normalize Trump", he said, or to "say I believe in his political beliefs or any of that stuff".

"It was definitely a downtime", Fallon told the publication. Fallon said the response to the interview was "out of control".

Donald Trump got his feelings hurt when Jimmy Fallon recently was asked about his infamous Donald Trump hair tussle on the Tonight Show (an incident that occurred nearly two years ago). It's all in the fun of the show. "I get in at 10 in the morning, I work 'til seven at night and I'm just trying to make a amusing show".

He apologized "if I made anyone mad, and looking back, I would do it differently".

Fallon and his network NBC received blowback from viewers and people online, criticizing the SNL alum "for his willingness to serve as hell's court jester" and for "humanizing a xenophobe", to list just a few reactions. "Be a man Jimmy!" .

Fallon didn't return fire on Trump with any insults. They're like, 'No, you did that!' You go, 'Well, just calm down.
