Shark attacks California Instagram model in Bahamas

Now, nurse sharks are largely pretty docile, but it's always worth remembering that they are still sharks.

A model was bit on the wrist by a nurse shark as she swam in the ocean during a family trip to the Bahamas, RadarOnline.com has learned. Luckily, she's okay...but the photo of her bite is quite brutal.

So when model Katarina Zarutskie visited with her boyfriend and his family last month, she was keen to make the most of the lovely sights. But the post attracted an influx of comments attacking her for "blaming the shark", BuzzFeed News reports. The model did not even plan to upload the images to her social media page until she was approached by journalists about her experience earlier this week.

The aspiring model was under only about eight seconds but it was terrifying nonetheless.

Anyway, Katarina was swimming around with them when one of them obviously mistook her arm for a tasty morsel and bit down on it.

Zarutskie hopes her modeling career will continue and she has not ruled out posing with sharks again.

Alongside photos from the misguided shoot, she wrote: "PSA: Sharks are cute and can nibble at times if not careful".

After freeing herself and making it to the side of the marina she held her arm above the water so as not to entice the other sharks into a feeding frenzy.

The 19-year-old said it's been a journey healing the bite wound. As for returning to Staniel Cay, the California native said she would go back in a heartbeat.

Zarutskie said she immediately headed for the stairs to get out of the water, holding her bloody arm above her head to keep it out of the water.

Still, she said, locals encouraged her to lay back and enjoy floating next to the sharks - despite the sharp teeth being mere feet from her.
