The couple, Bettina and Henk Schuurmans, were in the tractor when it collided with the semi between Saskatoon and Langham on Monday morning.

Family of the husband and wife has been notified, according to SaskMilk, which confirmed the couple's identity to CTV News.

An Elmira, Ont., couple's cross-Canada tractor tour ended tragically Monday in Saskatchewan.

Her husband, 55-year-old Henk Schuurmans, was transported to hospital in critical but stable condition.

The pair had been travelling across Canada since late June on a John Deere tractor with a cow strapped to the back.

The tour involved talking to consumers about supply management and its benefits for the dairy sector.

"SaskMilk and Saskatchewan dairy farmers were devastated to hear about the accident", Joy Smith, from SaskMilk said in a statement. "Henk and Bettina are not just fellow farmers, but friends, and the loss of Bettina and the injuries to Henk are very painful".

The semi driver was not injured in the crash, Medavie's spokesperson said.

A gofundme campaign has been established to help the family with any expenses incurred.
