Lucas Torreira has revealed that he received a surprise phone call from Arsenal manager Unai Emery before Uruguay's World Cup campaign.

Arsenal have confirmed their second signing in as many days in the shape of France Under-20 global Matteo Guendouzi from Ligue 2 side Lorient.

Guendouzi, 19, moves over to north London from France's Ligue 2, and becomes part of the midfield makeover going on at the Emirates this summer.

Guendouzi and Torreira are inbound, while the outbound Jack Wilshere, who announced his departure from the club last month, finalized a move to West Ham United this week.

After sealing his move to Arsenal, Guendouzi said: "Arsenal have always been the team closest to my heart and a side I've wanted to join since I was a child".

"My hope is to become a top player here at Arsenal". A lot of great players have played here. I want to establish myself here, which would be wonderful. It gives me great pride - it's incredible.

"We are delighted Matteo is joining us", said head coach Unai Emery of the transfer.

Arsenal are one club interested in Gomes as Emery hunts for potential replacements for Aaron Ramsey, who may leave.

Torreira impressed last season at Sampdoria, catching the eye of several teams in and around Europe.
