The trailer for director Desiree Akhavan's The Miseducation of Cameron Post, based on the novel of the same name, showcases a YA story like no other. The movie-which nabbed the Grand Jury Prize for Drama at Sundance earlier this year-follows Chloë Grace Moretz's Cameron Post on a coming-of-age journey into God's Promise gay conversion therapy center in the summer of 1993. From a script by Akhavan and Cecilia Frugiuele, The Miseducation of Cameron Post is set to hit theaters August 3.

"There's a smart sense of both humanity and humor that helps to undercut the inherent lunacy that is the foundation of the camp, especially felt in Lane and Goodluck's performances", I said in my review. "Pairing well with another Sundance premiere Come Sunday, which preaches the inclusive embrace at the heart of Jesus' message, A Miseducation of Cameron Post shows the risky progression when conservative religious doctrine gets conflated with righteous indignation".

Cameron, along with fellow queer campers Jane (Sasha) and Adam (Forrest), rebels against the ideals of the religious camp authorities. Camp administrators Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle) and Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr.) preside over the group, demanding that the teens confront the "sins" that brought them there. FilmRise has finally released the first official U.S. trailer for The Miseducation of Cameron Post, the latest from talented filmmaker Desiree Akhavan (Appropriate Behavior), adapted from Emily M. Danforth's celebrated novel.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post will open in selected theaters in NY on August 3 and Los Angeles on August 10, 2018.
