The Tottenham striker netted twice - including a dramatic stoppage-time victor - in England's Group G opener against Tunisia and subsequently helped himself to a hat-trick as they thrashed World Cup debutants Panama 6-1 in Nizhny Novgorod.

The former Manchester United and England full-back thinks that Kane, who has six goals to his name and could still win the Golden Boot, must have been carrying a knock. First of all I'm so proud of this team and staff for giving everything we could over a long period of time together.

Glenn Hoddle was another pundit to voice concerns over his fitness before the showdown with Croatia, with Kane going on to miss a golden opportunity to double England's lead at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium before being confined to the periphery for the most part. "It's to go again and try to achieve our dreams". The players have spoken about how they have been keeping track online of the scenes back home while Southgate believes winning in Russian Federation would be bigger than 1966, the only time England have won the World Cup, due to the global reach and worldwide connectivity of the game. "We have had a fantastic journey, further than we thought", he added. "We were a group of guys having a lot of fun, enjoying our football, learning and improving all the time - and that's what these lads have done".

"It will hurt for a while but we can hold our heads up high. It..."

"It all comes from the manager. Everybody knows how close our team is and that all comes from him".

"You've had an incredible World Cup, made history, and gave us fans something to believe in". We want this to be a family-friendly occasion and a chance for England fans young and old to show the positive spirit of football to the country and the world.
