Record Manchester City signing Riyad Mahrez says he moved to a "big" club to win the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola's side announced Mahrez as their first new arrival for the coming season earlier this week, and the Algerian will reportedly receive a weekly wage of £200 000 (R3.56 million), according to the Daily Mirror.

Speaking at his formal unveiling at the City Football Academy, Mahrez said: "It's a club who wants to win this type of trophy".

The 27-year-old Algerian global forward had wanted to move to the champions in January but City baulked at the £80 million fee Leicester demanded at the time.

"They have everything to try to win the Champions League".

"City have ambition to go further than the Champions League quarter-finals like they did last season". They're redefining the English game and I wanted to be a part of it.

'Every big club there are big players, ' he added.

Now he has finally got his big move and he has no fear battling it out for places with the likes of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva. "I am very confident about myself". Everyone can improve and you can improve the squad. England have been very good, they were unlucky last night, but have a lot of credit for what they've achieved, ' he said. They broke all the Premier League records which is unbelievable, but no I never thought about this.

He said: "He's a big manager, he's won a lot of things, made history with this club. If I'd moved sooner maybe I wouldn't have been happy, I don't know". I wanted to work under him and play for this club.

Mahrez also heaped praise on England after they were knocked out of the World Cup by Croatia on Wednesday night.
