The current coloring dates back to the early 1960s, when President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jackie Kennedy had industrial designer Raymond Loewy redesign the plane pro bono.

President Trump is reportedly not a fan of the Air Force One design.

According to the report, Trump sat down with Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg in the Oval Office last February to discuss a $4 billion deal for two replacement 747s for use as Air Force One.

That color has been on the exterior of the plane since JFK's presidency, when he, not his wife, chose it over a red-and-gold color scheme.

President Donald Trump wants to repaint Air Force One and change the color from white and robin's egg blue to something "more American", Axios reports.

The words "United States of America", the Seal of the President of the United States and the American flag are all visible on the outside of the plane, making it instantly recognisable.

Aside from updating the color scheme, Trump reportedly wants to upgrade the presidential bed, replacing the current couch-like bunk with something bigger and more comfortable.

The president's two Air Force One jets are now light blue - "luminous ultramarine blue", technically - and white, with a light brown and white lining, with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" emblazoned on it. During the presidential campaign, Trump used his personal plane - a Boeing 757 airliner-turned-private-jet- to travel around the country.

Trump will emerge from the iconic Air Force One this afternoon.

The Beast is a seven-seat black armoured limousine which reportedly cost two million USA dollars (£1.5 million) and is created to give Mr Trump the ultimate protection. Some senior officers like the current look as it is "known around the world", Axios said, quoting its source.

"Why would anyone want to discard an Air Force One design that evokes more than a half-century of American history?" presidential historian Michael Beschloss told Axios.

Air Force One now features two shades of blue, which were chosen by the Kennedys. The new planes are unlikely to be ready before Inauguration Day 2021.
