But trip planners may go out of their way to shield Trump from viewing another aspect of the greeting: an oversized balloon depicting the president as an angry baby in a diaper that will be flown from London's Parliament Square during what are expected to be massive gatherings of protesters opposed to Trump's presence.

There are also plans for protestors to gather close to the United States ambassador's residence in Regent's Park, where Trump and his wife, Melania, will stay overnight on Thursday.

As well as in London, protests are expected to take place in Bristol, Newcastle, Leeds, Cambridge and Cardiff after Trump arrives on Thursday.

Donald Trump has touched down in the United Kingdom, for his four-day trip which includes talks with Prime Minister Theresa May and a meeting with the Queen.

"If a balloon flying over London makes people laugh, I think that's absolutely worth it", she says.

Ian Blackford, the Scottish National Party's leader in the Westminster parliament, said he regretted that May's government would roll out the red carpet for Trump.

According to a notice posted on the embassy's website on Tuesday, "Numerous demonstrations are being planned for July 12 to 14, 2018, surrounding" Trump's visit.

Mr Smyth, who is originally from Ireland, said Trump fans had been given a bad rap, and there had been lots of support for the pub's temporary renaming.

Opposition MPS, backed by an online petition signed by almost 1.9 million people, called on May to cancel the state visit offered when she met Trump in Washington after his inauguration in January a year ago. Still, lawmakers had no qualms about publicly calling Trump a demagogue and a fool.

It is not a state visit, so the President will stay with the USA ambassador in London instead of being hosted by the Queen.

Queen Elizabeth II has outlasted 13 USA presidents during her reign.

On the NHS: Trump said it was "going broke and not working".

One such protest will entail a 19-foot-high orange balloon shaped like Trump as a baby, which London Mayor Sadiq Khan - who's feuded with the president - approved under "the right to peaceful protest".

The two leaders will hold talks at the Prime Minister's country residence of Chequers where Russia, Brexit and the Middle East will top the agenda. These will focus on relations with Russian Federation, trade, Brexit and the Middle East.

From there, Trump and his wife Melania are expected to travel to Windsor to meet Queen Elizabeth.

As part of the visit, Mrs Trump will meet veterans and schoolchildren in London on Friday, accompanied by the PM's husband Philip May.
