According to NASA, Friday the 13th was not a solar Eclipse since December 1974. Such long duration of total lunar eclipses had earlier occurred on July 16, 2000 for a total duration of 1 hour 46 minutes and another one on June 15, 2011 for 1 hour 40 minutes.

Unlike solar eclipse, in which there is a short period of time, the lunar eclipse peak may be quite long. On Friday, some parts of the globe, especially Australia and New Zealand, witnessed a partial eclipse.

The alignment where Earth slips into the Moon's shadow occurs much less frequently than the New Moon, obviously.

Our world contrasts between the moon and sunlight each month, but a solar eclipse happens just when the three celestial bodies have been adapting so that Earth glides through part of this moon shadow. So, a group of Ukrainian researchers found that during a total solar Eclipse on 11 August 1999 in Bulgaria, there was a decrease in air temperature by 6 to 7 degrees Celsius. This was the reason a totally eclipsed Moon, at times, was called as blood moon. The people who deal in such events must also use proper safety equipment to look at any type of solar eclipse.

The first solar eclipse happened at the beginning of the year on January 31. To help prevent side effects, during the time of eclipse, Shiv Chalisa should be read, the needy should donate food and basil leaves should be eaten.Scientific and astronomers recommend that seeing a solar eclipse through the naked eye is risky and it can also damage the sight.

This week's eclipse will be a partial one - when the Moon slips past, only partially obscuring the Sun. After the eclipse, many people take a bath to purify themselves and change into fresh clothes. "The total eclipse will last up to 2.43am (IST) on 28 July". The total eclipse that happened a year ago was so celebrated because of this.

The Moon transforms into deep red or reddish brown in the course of eclipses, rather than going entirely dark.

What advice NASA offers about observing solar eclipses is interesting too.

The next partial Eclipse, which will take place on Friday 13-th, can be seen already in September 2080.
