In the Chinese province of Sichuan in the industrial Park, an explosion occurred in which 19 people died and another 12 were injured.

According to Xinhua the fire, which broke out on Thursday evening, had been put out early Friday.

"I heard seven explosions in ten minutes", an eyewitness told domestic news agency Beijing News.

The Southern Metropolis News reported that a mainland business registration database showed that Hengda had been established three years ago and was listed as a chemical product manufacturer and distributor.

There have been a number of deadly explosions at Chinese industrial facilities in recent years.

The Ministry of Emergency Management has sent a team to further investigate the cause of the explosion.

"My first response was that something was wrong and I went the window and saw thick smoke rising from the east".

The company, which makes chemicals for the food and pharmaceutical industries, did not immediately answer telephone calls from Reuters to seek information.

South China Morning Post reports that the explosion occurred in an industrial area of Jiangan county at 6.30pm on Thursday, based on a statement released by the Sichuan Industry Safety Supervision Administration.
