"They are devoting law enforcement resources to sting operations for this?"

Officers were well within their area of responsibility when making the arrests, she added.

Daniels performed early Friday morning at Vanity Gentlemen's Club in Columbus after the owner of Sirens declined to host her again.

"Vice personnel working last night believed they had probable cause that state law regulating sexually-oriented businesses was violated; however, one element of the law was missed in error, and charges were subsequently dismissed", said Jacobs. Daniels's television-friendly lawyer, Michael Avenatti, has claimed that the charges were politically motivated, calling the case a "set up" on Twitter. This week, Daniels was arrested on misdemeanor charges in Ohio.

"A mistake was made, and I accept full responsibility", she said. She was originally scheduled for another performance at Sirens that night, but her attorney, Michael Avenatti, said she opted to find another club. However, on Thursday, prosecutors dropped the charges because Daniels had appeared only once at the Columbus club and the law refers to someone "who regularly appears nude or seminude" at a club. But she said the officers' motivations will be reviewed internally. An Ohio law prohibits nude or semi-nude dancers at clubs in the state from touching customers, and Daniels reportedly groped undercover police officers during her performance, including touching the breasts and butt of a female cop.

"Regular appearances" is referring to this bit of OH law: "No employee who regularly appears nude or seminude on the premises of a sexually oriented business, while on the premises of that sexually oriented business and while nude or seminude, shall knowingly touch a patron who is not a member of the employee's immediate family..."

The court papers said "no evidence" was provided that Daniels "appears or has appeared regularly at Sirens".

Daniels has said she had sex with Trump in 2006, when he was married.

Through White House officials, Trump has denied the affair with Daniels, although Cohen has admitted paying her $130 000 as part of the agreement.
