The retail giant is turning up the heat on streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music by offering big discounts on Amazon Music Unlimited.

The regular price of the Nintendo Switch console is $299.99. Customers who did decide to buy a Prime Day sale product suddenly found that the big U.S. retailer who also owns Amazon Web Services was facing transaction problems both online and via their app. "The outage is especially problematic as many of Amazon's Prime deals are promoted for a set window of time - something that could cause a great deal of frustration for potential customers".

Amazon shares, which were up roughly 1.6 percent in midday trades, ended the day up 0.5 percent at $1,822.49 - still notching an all-time high for the e-commerce site.

One Sydney based retailer said "It appears that Amazon are using bait marketing this may be okay in the United States of America but not here in Australia". There's 30 percent off select baby gear, plus $5 savings on books, when you spend $20.

Its 36-hour Prime Day 2018 deals marathon was instantly met with 404 errors thanks to a massive numbers of deal hunters trying to reach the site, all at the same time, according to people we talked to from the company.

One affected user writes: "I watched items all day and now I missed out, they are 100% claimed when I finally get to see them".

"We are committed to ensuring a fair cooperation with all our employees, including positive working conditions and a caring and inclusive environment", said an Amazon spokesperson in an email statement.

Analyst Sucharita Mulpuru-Kodali at Forrester Research called the glitch a "huge deal". "Unless this is way beyond their wildest expectations, it's just odd".

Having said that the sale is exclusive to prime members, the interested buyers can purchase the membership at just Rs. 999 which will include thousands of one-day deals as well as the short-lived Lightning Deals. More than half of Americans said they lived in a household with Prime, according to a Cowen survey in December.

Discount-hungry Amazon shoppers found themselves in the doghouse Monday.

It wasn't clear how widespread the problem was, and users were reporting different problems.
