Jurgen Klopp has provided the latest update Liverpool's forward Daniel Sturridge's situation as the Reds' no 15 was heavily linked with a move away from Anfield.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp once again suggests that the door remains open for Daniel Sturridge after returning from his West Bromwich Albion loan spell.

"It's amusing, this is my third pre-season and every year we talk about the same things", he told reporters at Gigg Lane.

The other options are two of England's World Cup winners at youth level - Dominic Solanke, who scored just one Premier League goal in 21 appearances last season, and Rhian Brewster, who has never played a first team game for the Reds.

"I always said there is a future, it's about what we do in the moment".

Over in the US Liverpool will compete in the International Champions Cup, locking horns with the likes of Klopp's former club Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and bitter rivals Manchester United.

"They show up, and it should be easy for me in the end".

Sturridge fired a blank during his 45 minutes on the field in Saturday's goalless pre-season friendly against Bury, but Klopp could yet keep the 28-year-old in his squad for the 2018-19 campaign. Is it closing tomorrow? No?

With "modern" forward Roberto Firmino impressing with his comprehensive attacking skills, Sturridge's chances for a permanent place in Liverpool's sways has nearly faded. But perhaps, Klopp might use his vast experience and may unleash the striker as a stockpile to make the difference on the pitch.
