Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams has checked herself into a mental health facility to deal with issues of depression.

Last year, Williams told the hosts of "The Talk" that she didn't realize she'd been suffering from depression until she was in her 30s, despite experiencing symptoms since she was a teenager. At the time, the singer questioned how she could be in "one of the top-selling female groups of all time, suffering with depression".

Williams said in an Instagram post today that she has "sought help from a great team of health care professionals".

In the statement that Williams shared on Tuesday, she wrote, "For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it's time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing". "Michelle My Bell, I'm soo proud of you!" she wrote. I just thought it was growing pains.

As a result, she reached out to her manager at the time, Matthew Knowles who apparently could not understand her depression either. "What do you have to be depressed about?"

"So I was like, 'Oh, maybe I'm just exhausted, '" the IL native said she reasoned, before her depression got "to the point where I was suicidal. and wanted out" from the group.

When asked how bad it got, she replied, "I was suicidal".

"So many people are walking around acting like they've got it all together and they're suffering", she said. "We've been moving very quickly and planning. I want to normalise this mental health discussion".
