Phil Mickelson shows off his classic flop shot trick at British Open

Former European Tour pro Gary Evans, 49, chose to be the courageous assistant in another Mickelson flop display on Tuesday ahead of the Open.

It bodes well for Mickelson's chances of winning The Open championship at Carnoustie in Scotland this week, with the left-hander an outside hope at $61.

To get so much elevation on the shot took huge amounts of skill.

That volunteer turned out to be a professional golfer himself - European Tour player Gary Evans.

Evans flinched slightly but did well to keep his composure in what was surely a nerve-wracking situation regardless of who is standing over the ball.

"I was feeling a little nervous standing in front of Phil if I'm being honest", Evans said on Twitter.
