‘America’s Got Talent’: See the death-defying trapeze act that went wrong

Duo Transcend - married couple Mary and Tyce - had wowed the judges with their routine as they dangled above the stage, which had been set alight.

Tyce upped the ante in the act when he slipped a blindfold over his eyes and reached out to catch Mary - but missed her.

As she and her husband embraced each other, the audience and the judges rose to their feet to give them a standing ovation. Because of his progressive eye disease, Tyce has trouble seeing, which adds a layer of danger to their act.

As Tyce hung upside down from the trapeze and prepared to catch his wife, who was balancing on his legs and the trapeze bar, he lost his grip.

A heavy mat helped break her fall, People reported. As all this unfolded, Tyce watched from the air as his wife was injured until he could be brought to the ground safely. Before Mary asked the judges to attempt the act again, the couple reunited onstage, where they hugged and kissed.

"No, it's fine!" yelled Mel B.

Guest host Ken Jeong comforted the concerned performers, explaining that, even though things didn't go flawlessly, it was clear how skilled they really are.

"This is not America's Got Perfection, it's America's Got Talent, nobody can do this", he consoled the couple.

The two burst into tears upon receiving the happy news, explaining that the traveling nature of their jobs requires them to be away from their son most of the time - but advancing in the competition means they're one step closer to securing their dream. "I mean, it's OK".

"I don't think there's ever been a singer on any of our competitions who's been ideal". "It still doesn't make them not-amazing". He also pointed out how "incredible" it was that Tyce was able to do the performance even though he is almost blind.

While the pair were understandably concerned that their mishap could spell the end of their AGT journey, they were overwhelmed when they were told they'd be moving on to the live rounds at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. "Only on America's Got Talent does that happen".
