The 37-year-old can be seen on video, released by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, going through the warning gates back on July 4.

The woman then fell through the first gap she came to in the bridge, and disappears from sight as the huge concrete platform continues to rise.

ABC's WBay reports that the bridge operator had also been alerted about the incident and stopped the bridge from getting into full open position.

Bystanders rushed to rescue the unidentified woman and were able to free her after around a minute of her being stuck.

The woman was taken to hospital where she was treated for facial injuries.

A woman has been treated for facial injuries after trying to ride her bike on a rising drawbridge in the U.S.

'When there was a concern the bridge could close they went and got her out of there. Considering how badly this could have turned out for her, a few scratches and bruises to her face must feel like a trifle.
