So, you can imagine their joy when Springsteen paid a surprise visit to Billy Joel's 100th show at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night as the Associated Press reports.

The collaboration took place after Joel ran through hits like "Big Shot", "Movin' Out", and "New York State of Mind" and before (even more) hits like "Only the Good Die Young", "Piano Man" and an encore featuring "We Didn't Start the Fire", "Uptown Girl", "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me" and "You May Be Right".

Joel told the energetic crowd he had a guest coming onstage who has won a Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

Thanks to a great video (see below) from fan Dennis Farrell, even those who couldn't score tickets to Joel's 100th show can get a feeling for how insane The Garden was last night.

Joel first performed at Madison Square Garden on December 14, 1978. According to the AP, he thanked his audience for attending the show while his 2-year-old daughter, Della Rose Joel, perched on his lap. No other artist has yet to surpass his 100-performance marker at the arena, making it enough of a feat that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo deemed July 18 "Billy Joel Day" just before the musician's concert.

He said he had to think of a special song to sing to celebrate his new milestone, and then performed "This Is the Time". His piano is on display in front of the venue.
