Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Taylor Swift and Sir Ian McKellen are to star in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats movie musical.

Taylor Swift has a new pet project.

Variety and several other film sites said that "Cats" would also star, in roles to be determined, Swift, actor turned late-night comedian James Corden and veteran British actor Ian McKellen.

Working Title and Universal's much-discussed movie adaptation of the hit Cats musical has grown some sizeable claws.

Tom Hooper (The King's Speech) will direct the film, which has been adapted by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) from Webber's musical. You may recognize Grizabella's famous song from the musical, "Memory".

Based on poems by T.S. Eliot, "Cats" tells of a feline tribe - in human form on stage - called the Jellicles who decide who among them will make a fateful ascent into a new life.

Deadline says Hooper has already been at work on the film for two years and will begin filming in the autumn.

Hooper will be joined by the three producers who worked with him on his last film musical, 2012 box-office hit Les Miserables: Debra Hayward, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. It is the fourth-longest-running Broadway show.

Brit tabloid The Daily Mail first reported the castings with Oscar-winner Hudson reportedly in line to play Grizabella.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's inexplicably popular Cats is one of the most successful (and longest-running) musicals in Broadway history, and soon, it will become one of the biggest movie musicals, too.
