He had previously been linked with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, but Bernard insisted: 'I did not need any convincing to come here'.

Speaking to evertontv, Bernard said that the chance to join a "great club with great tradition" was the key driving factor behind his decision to sign for the club, vowing to help "make things happen" alongside former Watford manager Silva.

'The manager made me feel confident about playing here. He is a very good coach and he has achieved really good things at other clubs.

"We have a very good squad, with very good players and it is very hard to add players to that", he said.

The 25-year-old who has 14 caps for Brazil, was available as a free agent after refusing a contract renewal at Shakhtar Donetsk when his contract expired at the end of last season. The Club reserves the right to buy back the player.

Bernard also promised Everton supporters that he would give his all for the club this season.

Bernard will be vying with the likes of Richarlison and Theo Walcott for a place on Everton's wings has made a vow to the Goodison Park faithful.

"This is an ambitious club which is aiming to achieve real success with Marco Silva's ideas and the new players coming in".

Moments later they also confirmed that Portugal worldwide Gomes would join the Premier League side on loan.
