India vs England: Rain Plays Spoilsport on Opening Day of Lord's Test

Seems the first session is going to be washed out.

Root confirmed Wednesday that Pope would bat at number four but that England would delay a decision on whether to play Ali or Woakes instead of Stokes until the morning of the match, with the uncapped Jamie Porter released from the 13-man squad.

India have only managed to register two Test wins over England at Lord's (D4 L11); one of those came last time out (2014) whilst the first occasion (1986) saw Dilip Vengsarkar score his third Test century at the venue, a feat that is yet to be matched by an overseas batsman.

Watch day two of the second Test between England and India, at Lord's, live on Sky Sports Cricket (channel 404) and Sky Sports Main Event (channel 401) from 10.30am on Friday.

We witnessed an absolute cracker at Edgbaston in the opening Test with India just falling short of the target. Stokes, who picked up four wickets during India's second innings, is trying to clear his name in court after being charged with affray following a brawl in September 2017, while Malan has been dropped due to poor performance.

England captain Joe Root and India captain Virat Kohli.

Neither team have named their final XI, although 20-year-old batsman Ollie Pope will make his England debut.

They will, however, make at least two changes to their side.

"As long as we cross the line, that is the only thing that matters", Kohli insisted.

Two days before the game, there was a healthy amount of grass on the Lord's pitch. It is expected that the groundsmen will shave a few bits before the start of the match but even if they don't, the pitch is likely to turn out quite dry.

"It's a good choice, a tough one too", Bharat Arun, India's bowling coach, told reporters at Lord's on Tuesday. The visitors' bowling unit impressed, picking 20 wickets for the fourth successive time on the road since the start of the year, but their batting, barring captain Kohli, was a big letdown.

If the Indian team decide to go ahead with that strategy, Umesh Yadav may have to sit out with Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya handling the pace duties.
