"A lot of careers are defined on major championships".

It wasn't so much media day at the 100th PGA Championship on Tuesday as it was Tiger Woods Day.

"I think I was probably a little more anxious past year, just because there was a big focus right after winning the Open Championship", Spieth said Tuesday as thunder boomed and rain pelted Bellerive Country Club, washing out many practice rounds.

From a morning start to an evening finish the thread connecting the day's agenda was a familiar one - Tiger Woods.

Patrick Reed, Brooks Koepka and Francesco Molinari won the Masters, US Open and The Open respectively, and they tee off at 7.15pm. "I wouldn't have him as the favorite, but nothing that he does surprises me anymore". "He was doing unbelievable things".

The field, like it is at every major, is loaded with star power.

The 14-time Major victor finished second behind Paul Casey in the Valspar Championship in March and was in contention at Bay Hill the following week before driving out of bounds on the 16th hole of the final round. "So things are going to be different from day-to-day, and it's just about managing it". Obviously it can get a lot better.

"But, as we saw at the last major a few weeks ago, he's right there, which is an unbelievable achievement". He's 20th on the Ryder Cup points list and needs to get into the top eight to secure a spot without having to be one of the four captain's picks.

U.S. captain Jim Furyk is sure to be questioned on the subject on Wednesday when he pays a visit to the media centre. "Trying to take pressure off yourself, trying to treat it like any normal week, just trying to win the golf tournament that week, sort of put it out of your head that what winning this golf tournament would mean in terms of your legacy and your place in the game".

When Woods was told of Bjorn's comments and asked if he believes that, he said with a smile, "I like my chances in match play". Inflammation where? "Everywhere", Woods said.

"It's just that there's going to be certain days that I'm just not going to have the speed and flexibility and the movement that I once did, " Woods said.
