The risk of West Nile virus infection is at a level not seen since 2012 when an outbreak infected 290 IL residents, the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District announced Thursday.

"The two pools, or two trap sites that were positive, were found within the City of Kitchener, but really what it means is that conditions are right anywhere across the region", Miller said.

Mosquito pools in every county in New Jersey except for Passaic have tested positive for the virus. West Nile was found in Minnesota in 2002.

Symptoms include severe headaches, fever, vomiting and diarrhea, with the agency recommending to seek immediate medical attention.

There have been more than 240 cases of west nile virus and 8 confirmed deaths since it came to Butte County in 2004.

People of any age can become sick from the virus but those aged 50 and above, or who have weak immune systems, have the highest risk, according to the World Health Organization.

The Cape Cod Times reports that state Department of Health said Thursday 14 mosquito samples from Falmouth, Barnstable, Dennis, Bourne and Yarmouth tested positive for the virus after being trapped Tuesday and July 31.

Troy urges its residents to be proactive with preventative measures and avoiding mosquito bites by wearing long sleeves, using insect repellents and preventing babies and younger children from coming in contact with mosquitos.
