Everton had a dramatic end to the window, also wrapping up deals for Brazilian playmaker Bernard and Andre Gomes, the Portuguese midfielder who had also been at Barcelona.

In the immortal words of one Larry David: preeeetty... preeeeetty... pretty good.

Barcelona will be able to buy back central defender Yerry Mina for €60m (£54m) from Everton after inserting a clause into his deadline day move to Goodison Park. The 25-year-old has played 29 times for his country.

Portugal global Gomes endured even greater struggles at LaLiga's champions and has found an escape route in the shape of a season-long loan at Goodison Park, which will cost the Toffees €2.25million.

The 23-year-old only joined Barcelona from Palmeiras in the January transfer window.

"I chose Everton because of all the things I had heard about Marco Silva and after speaking to him I was happy with what he said to me", Bernard told the club's wbesite.

A loan fee of around £2million was agreed, with Everton also picking up the cost of the player's wages.

While Brands landed Everton's main targets the club were less successful in reducing an already over-sized squad. Manchester United academy graduate Michael Keane had failed to be a solution for Everton upon joining from Burnley, while Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka were clearly past their best. Nikola Vlasic is another who could depart with CSKA Moscow interested in a loan deal for the out-of-favour Croatia winger.
