Liverpool have looked impressive during their preparations for the new season, which they will begin by welcoming West Ham to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

While others have been frustrated, Liverpool have had a great transfer window, with Klopp addressing weak spots in his squad and spending big to try and plug the gaps.

Karius has lost his role as Liverpool No. 1 to new signing Alisson, but after coming on to the pitch in Tuesday's friendly against Torino, the home fans applauded his entrance.

The £13m signing from Stoke is another Anfield star to catch the supporters' imagination across their pre-season fixtures, his overhead kick against Manchester United going a long way to firing the Swiss star into his new fans' affections.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has hailed Chelsea's ability to bounce back from poor seasons and then challenge for the Premier League during the next campaign.

But in Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Phillips, the manager is content with his options, heaping praise on his young addition. If he isn't fit, Jürgen Klopp could hand Jordan Henderson a start despite only returning to training on Sunday last week.

Goals were clearly not a problem for Liverpool last season and while Salah, Mane and Firmino will lead the charge once again, Daniel Sturridge appears to be back to somewhere near full fitness and young Ben Woodburn will continue to develop. "It is a brilliantly run club in terms of getting money for players and also in the transfer market".

There was also another promising display from 21-year-old Nathaniel Phillips, who played nearly the full 90 minutes at centre-back, and a nice moment midway through the second half when Loris Karius, whose errors contributed to Liverpool's defeat in last season's Champions League final, replaced Alisson to huge cheers from the home crowd.
