Kawhi Leonard thanks the Spurs' fans and organization and said he is looking forward to the "next chapter" in his National Basketball Association career in his first comments since being traded form San Antonio to Toronto this summer. Leonard popped up in Toronto to take a picture with Masai Ujiri after the trade was done and talk to the Raptors brass about playing for the team, but still avoided offering any public statements as Ujiri held the trade press conference alone.

Leonard goes on to thank his teammates, his friends, his family, Gregg Popovich and, of course, the fans.

"While I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my career", Leonard wrote.

Leonard was traded to Toronto last month in a deal that sent him and Danny Green to the Raptors, with guard DeMar DeRozan, center Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick going back to San Antonio.

Though some are more heartfelt and less robotic, thank-you letters by traded players rarely say much significantly.

THANK YOU to every one of my teammates I've played with over my seven years in the National Basketball Association. There is not a more passionate or dedicated fan base than what I've witnessed in San Antonio. "I'll never forget what we have shared and accomplished together", he said.

Before saying one final thank you, Leonard says, "I'll always remember the city and the people of San Antonio".

The 27-year-old native of Los Angeles has yet to speak publicly since the trade, which came at his request after a tumultuous 2017-18 season in which he was limited to just nine games because of an injury to his right quadriceps.

The relationship between Leonard and his former coach seemed testy at points throughout last season as Leonard continued to sit out despite being medically cleared to play.
