That's the plan. A lot of people think because of the transfer window we will [challenge more] - but that's not how it is.

The Reds have drastically strengthened this summer with the additions of Alisson, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita but Klopp claims they still need to work on their consistency as well as aggression and might even need more luck to launch a serious title bid. The champions are Manchester City. We were in finals, yes, but if we got to the final we should win it this time.

"The league is exactly the same". "We have to be ready to fight".

'We have to be in a championship mode.

"Could we go to a final again?"

"Maybe there was some interest or a conversation but it's not a case of Monaco not letting me go to Manchester United or denying me the move, nothing ever really materialised".

"Step by step, we come closer".

Liverpool's England duo Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold only returned to training this week, alongside Lovren, but are pushing for a start.

"The window is only one way closed so we cannot buy any more but we can sell not in Premier League - but it is clear that a few things will happen", he said.

"Again, you all ask me about the gap with City, it's nothing to do with City".

"[They] are all in a different shape".

Jurgen Klopp revealed on Friday morning that Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan are both out of the weekend's game while fellow centre-halves Joe Gomez and Joel Matip will be assessed at Melwood. Trent, a bit longer in, which is good; [Henderson] in and full of power, but not too long in - three or four days - but it's Hendo so you always think about him. We don't have big issues but with these little things we need to think about if it is a risk or not and if it is a risk do we take that risk or not and all that stuff.

"Ragnar, no real chance, he didn't train".
