Whitmer will be on the ballot for governor in November.

For more MI primary results go here. She will face Attorney General Bill Schuette, who defeated Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, state Sen. She beat Abdul El-Sayed, the former director of Detroit's health department, and Shri Thanedar, a wealthy chemical testing executive. She was considered the favorite due to her political experience and broad support from organized labor and other key groups. El-Sayed especially courted the party's more liberal, pro-Bernie Sanders wing, as did Thanedar, who spent millions of dollars of his own money on his campaign.

El-Sayed lost, Saad came in fourth in a five-way race and Bush also went down in flames, according to published election results.

"Congratulations to Gretchen Whitmer on winning the Democratic nomination for governor in MI", said Democratic Governors Association Chair Gov. Jay Inslee.

Abdul El-Sayed from MI, who was on the ticket for governor, fell 20 percentage points behind his Democratic competition, even with both Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez coming out to stump for him. Whitmer also endorsed a $15 minimum wage, but focused her campaign on "fixing the damn roads", a memorable promise to fix the state's infrastructure. "We're excited that she'll be leading the fight this election to bring the change needed in Lansing".

"Gretchen Whitmer will work every day to make sure Michiganders lives improve, and that's why she's going to be a great governor", said Democratic Governors Association Vice Chair Gina Raimondo. Whether it's fixing Michigan's roads and bridges, fighting for universal preschool and debt-free community college, or cleaning up Michigan's drinking water, Gretchen will get it done.
