"Spider-Man connects to a lot of the characters", Panitch said.

But a new report suggests that the highly-promoted Venom rating may not be set in stone. Unfortunately for die hard Venom fans, Sony is aiming to keep the anti-hero at the PG-13 range, but is said to be pushing the envelope with the rating. And like that, the Venom R-rating may disappear, like a turd in the wind.

Trailers for the film, which recently underwent reshoots in Los Angeles after shooting in Georgia, emphasized the horror movie elements, showing the title character as he's about to bite a person's head off. The studio reportedly feels that if the film goes past PG-13, it will hinder any chances of sequels and any interacting with more family-friendly Marvel Studios characters like Spider-Man himself or any other MCU characters. With only two months left before the film's release, this suggests the filmmakers are under the wire to accommodate these executives. Instead of having a Kevin Feige or a Walter Hamada overseeing all the films, each individual Spider-Man movie is spearheaded by its own producer-Palak Patel runs point on Venom and the upcoming Morbius, Pascal spearheads the Homecoming sequel and Silk, and Spider-Man veterans Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing several other Marvel comics adaptations at Sony.

A new report shed light on Sony's plans for their Spider-Man franchises, including the news that their deal with Marvel gives them access to roughly 900 characters in their library.

Venom opens in theaters on October 5, 2018. The day they wrapped, he told the magazine, he was on a transatlantic flight to see his 33-year-old pal tie the knot. According to Variety, Sony is crossing its fingers that Venom does well critically and financially so they can move forward with an "MCU" of their own, primarily all of the Spider-Man characters such as villains and other vigilantes for which they own the film rights.

One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.
