Now, thousands are petitioning for LeBron James to take over education in the United States.

US President Donald Trump, who was named the sole recipient of the petition, recently mocked James on Twitter, responding to criticism from the four-time NBA MVP over the leader's stance on the National Football League anthem protests. Just days after POTUS insulted James' intelligence, thousands of fans have signed a petition demanding the National Basketball Association star replace Betsy DeVos as secretary of education.

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, 4,240 people had signed the petition. He made Lebron look smart, which isn't easy to do.

US First Lady Melania Trump was among those who later supported James, praising him for opening the school and adding that the player "is working to do good things on behalf of our next generation".

LeBron recently opened his I PROMISE school in Akron, calling it one of the best days in his life. His public announcement was the first time James had spoken publicly since leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Los Angeles Lakers, according to the Associated Press.

Although James didn't respond to Trump's tweets last week, other professional athletes did. Trump's school settled a lawsuit for $25 million after scamming students out of money and providing them nothing in return.

The president's comments led many to take to Twitter to argue that James would be a much better choice for secretary of education than DeVos.

However, there were those that felt James is getting too much credit for his new public school because the majority of the costs will come from taxpayers. BTW, she has 12 yachts, ' another person pointed out.
