Chelsea blank Huddersfield in Sarri's debut

The striker needs a goal to get his confidence up or both he and Chelsea may suffer.

World Cup victor Kante's scruffy 34th-minute volley and Jorginho's audacious penalty on the stroke of half-time put Chelsea in control before Pedro wrapped up the points in the closing stages.

Kante is already recognised as one of the better midfielders in Europe for his ability to appear in many places at one time defensively.

Sarri is known as a real character in the game and hit headlines last season for smoking in the tunnel while accompanied by personal bodyguards.

Sarri started Eden Hazard on the bench against the Terriers but the Belgian proved huge after coming on late in the second half as he set Pedro up with the Blues' third goal.

"People have been saying not qualifying for the Champions League isn't good because you want to be competing at the highest level but I think it can help them if I'm totally honest". And then on Tuesday another two, so it's not been easy for me at the moment.

Huddersfield, employing a three-man backline, had impressed in the first half and could have cancelled out Kante's opener but Steve Mounie headed against the inside of the post.

Huddersfield boss David Wagner felt his side "tried everything" in their 3-0 defeat at home to Chelsea, but accepts the result was deserved.

Sarri, who led Napoli to two second-place finishes in three seasons at the Stadio San Paolo, averages around five packets of cigarettes a day, so you can see why it would be hard to avoid tobacco for such a long period.

"We are lucky now because we can work with one match a week". But I think we did have a lot of unlucky situations. Sarri has said it will take time to get his players playing his style; if this was anything to go by, the rest of the Premier League will be in trouble when Chelsea fully hit stride.

"In the first half we started on the front foot, where we really wanted to be active", he said.

FW Alvaro Morata, 7 - Led the line enthusiastically, held up the ball well when in possession and looked confident enough to suggest the goals that have been missing from his game will come soon enough if Sarri persists with him.

"Then we were 2-0 down after I think a good half and I think second half we started very slow, we were shocked". Jorginho coolly converted the penalty. Jorginho will clearly be the key, the expert at quickly shifting the ball that Sarri knows well from Napoli.
