The company's chat client is specifically designed for gamers and has amassed 150 million users.

This new initiative will also bring with it some other things like timed exclusivity on the platform for some unannounced indie games.

Steam recently launched voice chat and group features somewhat similar to Discord, but it seems like Discord has a reply for Steam as well.

Canadian subscribers of the Discord Nitro program will be the first in the world to be granted access to the ability to buy games directly from Discord.

Discord's store is limited to start, with only a small handful of games from a few publishers. At launch, this will include titles like Metro: Last Light Redux, Saints Row: The Third and Darksiders: Warmastered Edition. Discord Nitro is Discord's premium service, and as of the introduction for this store, it will now provide gamers with select titles to play at no additional cost. The idea behind games curated for Nitro is to offer "games you may have missed", according to Discord. If users elect to, Discord can scan their computer for games and then make it possible to launch any of them through Discord, even if they require another launch.

As the store expands, Discord outlines that they will "rely on our community and our team to make the store feel super personal and focused on games that we genuinely think you'll enjoy".

The initial lineup of games sold through their client include: Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, Into the Breach, Frostpunk, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and The Banner Saga 3.

Steam also made headlines this week as it was revealed that upcoming Fallout 76 will not be released on Steam, and Bethesda is opting instead to release the game via its own distribution service. It was confirmed via email by a representative that "all games [offered on the storefront] will be curated by Discord". "This beta won't have any First on Discord titles, but we'll be showing off some soon", the company said. "So we want to provide them with a frictionless way to get into games with friends".

Finally, Discord's greatest strength lies in its cross-platform ubiquity, and another new feature takes advantage of it. Discord home screen is getting yet another new tab dubbed Universal Library.
