"I also stated after Coutinho's sale that the extraordinary fee presented an opportunity - for one summer at least - to outspend the rest of the Premier League". You need to have the right personality for that very hard job.

And it wasn't just a simple "yes" reply from Pele.

He decided to make a prediction ahead of the big kick-off.

He replied: "It's the start of the @PremierLeague today. I think it's the year of Liverpool, Alisson and Firmino", Pele tweeted on Saturday.

Obviously, Pele is backing two of his compatriots for glory.

Of course, Pele could have easily said that he was backing Manchester City with their Brazilian quartet of Gabriel Jesus, Fernandinho, Ederson and Danilo.

We'll find out over the next nine months or so whether Pele is right...

"But again, you all ask me about the gap of City and what we have to do".

"If Liverpool can get some impetus, then we don't know how Manchester City will react under pressure if a team can stay close to them at the end of the season".

"We do not have to play much better in the games against City - if we perform like we did a year ago, that would already be good".

"We can improve everything: we can improve our offensive game, we can improve our defensive game".

Little wonder, then, that the 26-year-old Swiss worldwide is all too aware that he has a point to prove to his critics and is relishing the idea that joining Liverpool has offered him the flawless opportunity to do so.

"Whether they have the capacity to catch a formidable City or not - and no matter how much opposition managers speak about Klopp having to start delivering a major trophy - it is better to be part of the conversation than on the outside listening in". It's about losing them in other games.

"We want to be, it has been clear for ages, champion of England and winning the league but how can we say that?" You dive in the water and now let's go for it until we don't have enough air.

Most pundits and even some of the club's fans feel that after splurging over £175 million in the summer transfer window, the Merseyside outfit are among the title favourites for the Premier League and even the UEFA Champions League. They brought in [Riyad] Mahrez, so that doesn't make them weaker. They were impressive against Chelsea, both sides were.

"We have to be like Rocky".
