Preston North End have beaten off a host of clubs to sign Manchester City's England U21 striker Lukas Nmecha on a season-long loan.

A number of Championship clubs have been linked with a move for the 19-year-old during the current transfer window, with Preston beating the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City and Leeds United to his signature.

The forward is eligible to play for Nigeria, Germany or England at worldwide level, with England the only country he has represented at youth level.

Nmecha's first-team debut came against Leicester City in the League Cup last December, with him twice appearing as a substitute in the Premier League at the end of last season.

Neil backed Nmecha to make a big impact in his side, saying: "We have been targeting this for a while now".

"We have signed one of the brightest forwards in the country at his age group", North End boss Alex Neil said. "He is very passionate about the game and I am excited by the style of play that the club have been playing", Nmecha told Preston's official website.

The England under-21 worldwide will be hoping to impress at Preston and show Manchester City that he can make it at The Etihad in the coming years. We play great football and I am here to add goals to the team.
