Ms Manigault Newman was a contestant on The Apprentice and later served as a senior adviser to the president. Her book also describes him as scattered, self-absorbed, misogynistic and insecure.

"Lowlife. She's a lowlife", Trump responded.

As the president waited for an event at his private golf club, Trump National Bedminster in New Jersey, he tweeted his disdain for his current Attorney General Jeff Sessions as "scared stiff" and "Missing in Action".

She has since referred to the administration as a "plantation", claimed she was ostracized for being black, and vowed she would never again vote for Trump.

The Guardian, which obtained an advance copy of the book, said Newman writes in her book that Trump used "the N-word" while taping "The Apprentice" and that he was caught on camera.

The remarks were a break with comments made during the campaign when the former reality television celebrity vowed that those who had criticized Trump would bend the knee to him. She said he then played it off as a joke but she knew he was serious. When Trump became potus, she got hired as the director of communications for the office of public liaison, but left in December 2017.

According to multiple reports, she cites three unnamed sources in "Unhinged" who claim to have heard Trump use the "N-word" repeatedly during the making of The Apprentice.

She also alleges that Trump has exhibited signs of a "mental decline that could not be denied" and says she went as far as printing out a study linking Diet Coke consumption to dementia and strokes and putting it in his briefing stack.

As reports of accounts inside the book leaked out, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders slammed Manigault Newman as a "disgruntled former White House staffer" whose book is "riddled with lies and false accusations".
