"Through 52 years of television and film, a parallel universe and a mirror universe, Mr. Spock remains the only member of the original bridge crew to span every era of Star Trek", said Discovery executive producer and burgeoning Trekverse point man Alex Kurtzman today of the return of the highly logical character. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock's greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning.

Peck's TV credits include roles on "Madam Secretary", "Gossip Girl", "10 Things I Hate About You", and "That '70s Show". "In that spirit, we're thrilled to welcome him to the family".

Shortly after taking the reins on Discovery, it was revealed Kurtzman signed a five year deal to develop more Star Trek for CBS, days before Sir Patrick Stewart confirmed his return as Captain Picard - over 24 years since The Next Generation.

If you are wondering how Spock may be introduced in the January 2019 debuting Season 2 of Discovery beside through family ties, there may have been a clue in the finale of Season 1. "The great Leonard Nimoy, then the brilliant Zachary Quinto, brought incomparable humanity to a character forever torn between logic and emotion".

But as Zachary Quinto proved with his wonderful work in the recent reboot movies, Spock is bigger than Nimoy and other actors can carry this torch. Ethan Peck is a fine actor, but he faces a series of challenges here. However, he's not the actor who will play Spock in Discovery. Finding the layers in a character who refuses to express his feelings in any way is tricky, and I'm eager to see how he tackles it.

Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham, a human woman raised from an early age by Sarek and Amanda Grayson, Spock's parents. In fact, Micheal will have to lead a literal search for her foster brother in order to decipher an alien signal that may be a threat to the entire galaxy.

A veteran TV actor, Peck has been cast to play the iconic Starfleet officer Spock in season two of CBS All Access drama "Star Trek: Discovery". It't not clear how many episodes Peck's Spock will feature in.
