Measles Outbreak Hits 107 People, In 21 States Which Includes NC

There have already been 107 cases reported this year; the majority were diagnosed in people who were not vaccinated, CDC reports.

In addition to IN, the other states being monitored are Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington, and Washington D.C.

In 2014, the US experienced a record number of measles cases, with 667 cases from 27 states reported to CDC.

Health officials warn we are on track for a more infectious year than usual, with cases cropping up from coast to coast.

According to the CDC, these are the dates of the outbreak and the states: From January 1 to July 14, 2018, 107 people from 21 states (Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington) and the District of Colombia were reported to have measles.

It can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person coughs or sneezes.

The rash appears as red and blotchy marks on the hairline that travel down over several days, turning brown and eventually fading.
