Sanders Challenger Files Election Complaint on Eve of Vermont Democratic Primary

Under Vermont law he can not appear on the November ballot as both a Democrat and an independent. Bernie Sanders is seeking the Democratic nomination, although he plans to run for reelection as an independent come November.

It remains unlikely that Adeluola's complaint will be successful since Vermont's Democratic secretary of state Jim Condos backed Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign.

"The Vermont Democratic Party has a strong, productive and close relationship with Senator Sanders", party spokesman Christopher Di Mezzo said in an email.

"Why I call him corrupted is that he has been having his way in Vermont for so long, to a point where he controls this state, and people like me aren't given a chance", Adeluola said.

And Vermont Democrats are okay with Sanders not taking the nomination, as they had been in 2006 and 2012.

There are four Republican still vying to face Sanders in November.

A former utility executive from Vermont has become the first transgender candidate to win a major political party's nomination for governor. But there's no question he won in Tuesday's primary in his own state with his own name on the ballot. He is also running for a number of other offices in the primary including the GOP nomination for the U.S. House.
