Russia Favors Trade With National Currencies, Not US Dollar

The Turkish top diplomat said he doesn't rule out that the United States may impose sanctions on any European country.

The currency tumbled to a record low of around 7.20 lira against the dollar late on Sunday after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned of drastic measures if businesses withdraw foreign currency from banks.

The U.S. Congress also passed a bill prohibiting the sale of F-35 jets to Turkey pending a review assessing the possible risk associated with Ankara's purchase of the S-400 air defense system. The move comes amid increasing tariffs and sanctions by the USA against Turkey. Increasing sanctions against Russian Federation make the use of local currencies much more convenient as access to USA dollars becomes more hard or in the case of trade with countries such as Iran nearly impossible.

Lavrov said Russian Federation and Turkey would continue talks for the full implementation of Astana deal which envisages de-escalation zones in Syria, including in Idlib.

Lavrov said the situation in the world remained alarming. " The move is partly in response to USA sanctions". He said the Assad government has a right to defend itself against opposition attacks and Moscow will support those operations.
