If you were planning a barbecue for this weekend you may want to rethink your plans as Ireland is in the path of a rather nasty-looking storm.

It will be wet on Saturday night, as rain becomes widespread and heavy in places overnight.

Ernesto will soon be moving into much cooler waters and an area of stronger wind shear.

Sunday will remain humid with temperatures still hovering in the high teens to low 20s.

And forecasters say that Yorkshire will see the majority of the bad weather on Sunday, with rain predicted for the majority of the day.

Yorkshire is set to be hit by long periods of heavy rain over the weekend as Storm Ernesto looks set to batter the UK.

Mr McGivern said: 'If we end up on the south of this ridge we will have similar weather to what we had earlier in the summer - the heatwave, the dry, the heat, the high pressure. Now, we could be feeling some of its affects.

As the country spent the last few months basking in a mini-heatwave, Met Éireann have issued a status yellow rainfall warning for the entire country!

The remnants of the tropical storm are expected to be officially classified as a "post-tropical cyclone" by the time they reach the United Kingdom, after coming across the Atlantic at high speed, the Met Office said on Friday.

Rainfall levels of up to 20mm are forecast to occur quite widely with higher levels of rain to be expected in some local areas.

Blackpool is set to see rain from early Friday afternoon to late evening, which will then give way to cloud on Saturday.
