Giuliani goes on (the video can be seen at the Meet the Press site) to say that Comey claims one thing and Trump another to suggest that "truth isn't truth". "It turned out to be a meeting about another subject, and it was not pursued at all".

Others were also quick to slam Giuliani's statement, with Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., tweeting the reasoning of Trump's attorney "is another step towards authoritarianism". He didn't mention Clinton by name. "I don't even know if they knew she was Russian at the time!"

On Sunday, Giuliani said that while a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower between Trump campaign officials and Russians was "originally for the objective of getting information" about Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, it was not an attempt at collusion. It is illegal for a USA political campaign to accept help from a foreign individual or government.

"I can figure it out", Giuliani said of the substance McGahn's interviews.

His legal team is more cautious and are still negotiating the term's of Trump's possible testimony.

Mueller is also investigating whether Trump committed the crime of obstructing justice by taking steps to deliberately impede the investigation, as The New York Times and other outlets have reported.

During an interview on NBC's Meet the Press, Giuliani complained that special counsel Robert Mueller was taking too long to finish his investigation. The New York Times reported this weekend that McGahn gave voluntary interviews totaling some 30 hours over nine months. "We have plenty of credibility", Giuliani snapped.

Todd again interjected, asking Giuliani if he understood what he was saying.

Mr Giuliani said that discussions over a presidential interview continued with Mr Mueller's office and that he would not be rushed into having Mr Trump testify "so that he gets trapped in perjury".

Todd, visibility perplexed, interrupted: "Truth is truth".

"Truth is truth", Todd told Giuliani in the interview.

President Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani acknowledged Sunday that the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between top Trump campaign staff and a Russian lawyer "was originally for the objective of getting information about [Hillary] Clinton".

The President's outside legal team for the special counsel investigation, which is headed up by Giuliani, replied to Mueller's proposal for terms of possible presidential testimony earlier this month, but the former NY mayor wouldn't disclose the details of his team's response. "Don't interfere with election". "We will release ours".
