Penn State football was ranked No. 10 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll.

No. 1 in the preseason poll from 1985-87, the Oklahoma Sooners were the first.

Alabama, who has won five national titles since 2009, received 42 out of 61 first-place votes and will look to repeat last season's performance where they both started and finished #1 in the rankings.

Defending national champion Alabama opens the season at No. 1 with Clemson, Georgia, Wisconsin and Ohio State rounding out the top five.

Alabama will begin its quest for a second consecutive national championship with a rare three-peat. The Badgers received one first-place vote. Taylor rushed for almost 2,000 yards in 2017, finding the end zone 13 times, and tied the FBS record for fastest to get to 1,000 yards on a season, doing it in seven games.

This marks the third straight year Alabama has started the season ranked atop the AP Top 25. The Pac-12 has three ranked teams: Washington (No. 6), Stanford (No. 13) and Oregon (No. 24).

This is Alabama's seventh time overall being a preseason No. 1, matching USC for fourth most.

The AP preseason poll was released Monday, and the Big Ten accomplished something it hasn't in almost six decades of the preseason poll.

Two other Florida schools opened the season ranked in the AP poll.

The Top 25 is determined by voter rankings for college football's best teams.

Oklahoma was the highest-ranked team from the Big 12 at No. 7. The team checks in at No. 9 in the first coaches' poll of the 2018 season, which was released earlier in August.
