According to the RIAA, Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975), the first album ever to go platinum, has now done so 38 times, meaning it's sold more than 38,000,000 copies. The album, boasting hits such as "Witchy Woman", "Lyin' Eyes" and "Take It Easy", had previously been evaluated by the RIAA in 2006, at which point it was certified at 29x platinum.

The Eagles have once again soared to the top of the charts with "Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975" album overtaking Michael Jackson's "Thriller" on Monday to become the best-selling album of all time in the U.S.

Testament to The Eagles's popularity is the fact that their 1977 album Hotel Calfornia is the third best-selling album with 26 million copies sold.

Further proving the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers' enormous popularity, The Eagles' other 1976 release, Hotel California, sits at No. 3 all-time at 26x platinum.

One album sale equates to 1,500 streams of an album or 10 song downloads. One of the most iconic pop albums of all times dethroned by a bunch of long-haired hicks playing proto-yacht rock about hotels you're not allowed to check out of. "It's been quite a ride", the singer-songwriter added.

RIAA's platinum status once equaled the sale of one million albums or songs, but in 2013, the company began incorporating digital streaming from YouTube, Spotify, and other music services to calculate certification for albums and songs. The Eagles record, released in 1976, pushed Thriller to second place which has been certified 33-times platinum.

The Eagles came to prominence in the 1970's in Los Angeles and released a number of huge hits that have continued to stay relevant.

That's not even the limit of the Eagles' record-selling dominance.
