ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the Seahawks are signing the ex-Browns linebacker to a one-year deal.

A person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Thursday that Kendricks' agreement is expected to be finalized in time for him to join the Seahawks for their Week 2 Game at Chicago on Monday night. And while that's notable in and of itself, what's even more notable is why he is available in the first place - he was released by the Cleveland Browns after he was charged with insider trading, something he pled guilty to last week.

Kendricks played 15 games for the Philadelphia Eagles a year ago, finishing the 2017 season with 2.0 sacks and 15 tackles. In any case, the Seahawks choice to sign a player who is dealing with a legal issue surely raises plenty of eyebrows. Kendricks' hearing on that matter is scheduled for January 24.

Earlier reports on Thursday indicated Kendricks was in town on a visit. Kendricks allegedly profited almost $1.2 million by using non-public information he received from Damilare Sonoiki, a global investment firm banker, in exchange for $10,000 and a Eagles tickets.

The Browns released him from the team on August 29, after the charges were filed. It listed Wagner as having a groin injury.

Mychal Kendricks could face 8-12 months in prison when his sentencing comes this December.
