Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Wes Hoolahan has signed for West Bromwich Albion until January.

It seemed likely the creative playmaker would head overseas but he joined the Baggies in training during the worldwide break and has now signed a short-term deal which could be extended in January.

The former Republic of Ireland global scored 54 goals in 352 appearances for the Canaries between 2008 and 2018, leaving the club at the end of his contract last season.

He played 352 games for the Carrow Road club during a 10-year stay.

Hoolahan is unlikely to feature as the Baggies return to action in a local derby against Birmingham on Friday evening, but will provide another option for Moore during the club's hectic Sky Bet Championship schedule.

In comments reported by the Express and Star, Darren Moore has suggested that West Brom will look to decide in the next seven days whether they plan to offer contracts to Wes Hoolahan and Russell Martin. He gives us more depth and fantastic experience. I'm delighted to get him here.

After being relegated from the Premier League last season, West Brom began their new campaign with a defeat and a draw, but have recovered to win three of their last four to move within four points of leaders Leeds United. I can tell you these guys now in their mid-30s are in great shape and can still handle the physicality. "He will get even better with game time but in terms of his general fitness he has satisfied all our demands".
