'Being fat is not beautiful' sweatshirt infuriates social media

The website recently released a sweatshirt from the brand LPA that reads "Being fat is not handsome it's an excuse", apparently an "as said to" comment left on plus-size model Paloma Elsesser's Instagram account.

The questionable offering from LA-based brand LPA was priced at £162 and modelled by a thin, smiling woman.

Others online trolled Revolve for the fat-shaming shirt because the company apparently doesn't stock clothing above size 10. But you are rude and ignorant.

'It's a collaboration with five women with the worst troll quotes, ' the brand explained to the account in a message.

In smaller letters under the text, each sweatshirt would read: "As said to" plus the Instagram handle of the recipient.

The statement also said that the "prematurely released images" on Revolve's website were "not only included without context of the overall campaign but regrettably featured one of the pieces on a model who's [sic] size was not reflective of the piece's commentary on body positivity". The capsule collection-originally conceived by LPA alongside Lena Dunham, Emily Ratajkowski, Cara Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse, and Paloma Elsesser-was set to debut tomorrow as a direct commentary on the modern day "normality" of cyber-bullying and the shared desire to create a community for those most affected by the epidemic.

She added: 'We at Revolve sincerely apologize to all those involved - particularly Lena, Emily, Cara, Suki and Paloma - our loyal customers, and the community as a whole for this error.

'The collection has been pulled.

However, when modeled by Revolve's marketing team on "thin white women", the meaning behind this particular sentiment is clearly distorted and is likely to be interpreted differently - as Lena accepts in her apology.

Model Tess Holliday, the site Fashionista, and United Kingdom -based artist Florence Given, as well as many others on social media, denounced the $168 sweatshirt, made by the brand LPA.

Proceeds from the sale would then go towards an undisclosed charity.

"We are proud to donate $20,000 to Girls Write Now in the hopes that those who need it can still benefit from what was to be a meaningful, insightful and impactful collaboration by LPA", the retailer's statement concluded.

The new sweatshirt line from the brand and LPA features three tops, each with a different shaming quote reportedly said to a celebrity. Without consulting me or any of the women involved, @revolve presented the sweatshirts on thin white women, never thinking about the fact that difference and individuality is what gets you punished on the Internet, or that lack of diversity in representation is a huge part of the problem (in fact, the problem itself.) As a result, I can not support this collaboration or lend my name to it in any way.

Lena Dunham also took to Instagram to have her say, confirming that her friend, Pia Arrobio, established the brand LPA, and that the pair had been "working on a collaboration" together.
