'Friends' star Matthew Perry reveals three-month hospital stay following surgery

Three months in a hospital bed.

A recent trailer for a Friends movie Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer also sent fans wild, but was later confirmed to be a hoax.

In his first tweet since March, Matthew wrote: 'Three months in a hospital bed.

Perry's representative confirmed the surgery last month, saying: "Matthew recently underwent surgery in a Los Angeles hospital to fix a gastrointestinal perforation".

Last month, a spokeswoman for the 49-year-old said he under went an operation in Los Angeles and was "grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals".

A punctured bowel - or gastrointestinal perforation - can occur in the wall of the gastrointestinal tract, including the stomach, small intestine and large intestine. The condition is life-threatening.

Once an infection develops, it can lead to sepsis and ultimately cause death.

Thankfully, it seems Matthew is on the mend.

Matthew has spoken openly in the past about his health battles, including his struggle with alcohol and vicodin.

He said previously: "I've had a lot of ups and downs in my life and a lot of wonderful accolades but the best thing about me is that if an alcoholic comes up to me and says, "Will you help me stop drinking?' I will say, 'Yes". I hope you'll recover soon.

'And I'm looking at him and he's high out of his mind, and he hadn't showered in like [nine] days or something and the guy has just superglued his hands to his legs, and he wants me to unstick him, and I have no idea, because I've never dealt with somebody whose superglued their hands to their legs'.
