Sustained winds on Tuesday afternoon approached 105 miles per hour, making it a very strong Category 2 storm, though it was expected to gradually weaken over cooler waters.

"There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect", said the NHC in its 11 a.m. September 12 update. "What we will get are the remnants of the tropical storm".

At 11 a.m., Tropical Storm Isaac, carrying maximum sustained winds near 70 miles per hour, was located about 775 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and was moving towards the west at 16 miles per hour.

Hurricane and tropical storm watches have been posted for several Caribbean islands as a weakening Tropical Storm Isaac continues its trek toward the Leeward and Windward Islands.

In the Pacific, Tropical Depression Olivia continues to move west away from Hawaii. This rainfall may cause risky flash flooding. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward from the eye of the storm up to 140 miles.

"Remnants of that system could bring wet weather across western parts of the United Kingdom on Tuesday and we still need to keep an eye on it".

Preparing for the worst, about 9,700 National Guard troops and civilians were deployed with high-water vehicles, helicopters and boats that could be used to pluck people from the floodwaters.

Hurricane Helene is forecast to weaken over the eastern Atlantic Ocean, and interests in the Azores islands should monitor the storm's progress.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper called Florence an "uninvited brute" that could wipe out entire communities as it grinds across the state.

On the right side of this view is Helene, a Category 2 hurricane that will likely peter out in the Atlantic without making landfall, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), a division of NOAA. A High Surf Advisory has been posted for the south coast, the Islands and the NH Seacoast associated with Hurricane Florence just off the coast of the Carolinas.
