South Korean giant Samsung and China's Huawei are in first and second places, respectively.

And a new "advanced Portrait mode" was shown off by Apple that gives users more control over bokeh effects that are applied in the background. Competition is heating up in inter-company recruitments too, in April, Apple hired Google's top AI boss, John Giannandrea. John Gruber, who covers Apple on his website Daring Fireball, tweeted that Apple's silence speaks volumes, and the company is likely struggling to make AirPower work as advertised (although he used more colorful language).

The big news is there are three new phones and they're all huge: the 5.8-inch iPhone Xs, the 6.1-inch iPhone XR and the 6.5-inch iPhone Xs Max. This product will also be Apple's biggest iPhone ever with a 6.5-inch OLED screen on a body that is the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus, which had a 5.5-inch display.

If you were doing something boring and normal like sleeping last night, you probably missed that iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max pre-orders kicked off at 3AM Eastern Time last night.

The new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max come with IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

The differences between LCD and OLED displays, meanwhile are rather technical but the latter offers a better overall colors, deeper blacks, and power efficiency. The smartphone is a bit different from the other two but it has a much lower price.

But in France, for example, over just the basic version of the iPhone XS is Max with 64 GB of internal flash memory. Interested? The XS and the XS Max hit India on September 28 in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB configurations starting at Rs 99,900 (XS) and Rs 1.10 lakh (XS Max).

The iPhone XR starts at $749, which is not really affordable but much lower than the other two releases. It features a 6.1-inch edge-to-edge LED screen with a resolution of 1792 by 828 pixels and a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch.

The flying elephant of the new lot is the iPhone Xs Max, which sounds like it could be a new flavour of Mountain Dew, or perhaps an extreme sport.

Apple also rolled out a new watch, the Series 4, which sets itself apart in the tech space with its high functionality as a health device.

It has a built-in electrical heart rate sensor that can take an electrocardiogram, which is a first for a wearable device. Many aging seniors wear bracelets that can call 911 or a loved one when they take a nasty fall and can't get up, like those advertised by Life Alert.

If we don't see the gadget this year, it would be the latest missed deadline on the product front.
